do you know opendns.org? Posted on August 19th

whatisdns opendns do you know opendns.org?

If not you should.

Opendns.org provides an alternate domain lookup service. Simply put, this is what you’re waiting for when you type a web address into your browser.

Often times, your internet providers DNS services can be slow as molassess. Also, they don’t provide any intelligence at all. If you type in a domain incorrectly say buu.com instead of buy.com you may wind up at a hackers site setup to look like buy.com (phishing) and once you put in your credit card it’s all over for you isn’t it?

Opendns.org gives some protection from that and relief from slow dns lookups. i’ve been using it for years and usually set it up for folks when they ask me to touch their routers.

Hint: if you set it up on the router, then all the devices will automatically use opendns. this works much better than going from machine to machine to setup opendns services.

Do you use opendns? If not, would you consider it?
