DROP.IO a way to solve the ‘how do I share this huge file’ blues Posted on August 22nd

I’ve been checking out Drop.io and i have to say i’m very impressed. drop.io gives you a very simple way to accomplish a common problem when you’re at your computer.dropio_logo-1 DROP.IO a way to solve the how do I share this huge file blues

Have you ever sat down to do something and thought “Oh I have to get Richard this file but it’s huge! Can I email it to him?

Well, you probably know that email doesn’t always work for these things. gmail has made it a lot better than it used to be, but the problem still exists for many of us.

Well with drop.io you can create a temporary envelope of sorts to get 1 or more files to whoever needs to see them. You’re given up to 100 megabytes to play with for free! That’s at least 5 times as large as a gmail and the difference is that with drop.io you don’t have to worry about whether Richard’s email can handle the attachment.

Instead of using email you can just use drop.io and then send your friends the new URL.

Drop.io is very flexible. you simply create a url which would be something like http://drop.io/sean808080 and then upload your files. When complete your url will be a new ‘web page’ of sorts with a listing of all of your attachments. Just send the url to people and they can view or download or even add files to your drop.io.

Very cool stuff. You can also:

  • set the drops to expire after a certain time
  • fax into your drops
  • email into your drops
  • phone into your drops and have your voice converted into an mp3 automatically
  • enable others to add to your drops
  • subscribe to updates made to your drops via email or SMS

The list goes on and on!

Here’s a great screencast that walks you through some drop.io basics.

Would you use it? I already am.

In fact, here’s a drop I created today of some music I downloaded from some blogs. Enjoy it while you can. Try listening to the files right on the drop and downloading them and adding notes.

Bonus tip:  mp3 files on drop.io can be played on an iPhone!
Just click the download link for the mp3 and it will launch quicktimes on the iPhone.  Very groovy!
